U50: PBIS Overview to Entire Staff

Description:

Participants will receive an overview of the PBIS process including discussion on systems, data, and practices. Participants will look at systems in terms of how staff is supported in behavior management, data in terms of how decisions are made to be proactive and positive, and practices in terms of how students are supported to develop social emotional skills. U50 Training Dates and Locations:

U100: Developing your Tier 1/Universal System, Part 1*

> Course Description:

*  U100 and U200 equate to AA1027:  PBIS Tier 1/Universal Team Training -2 Days/U100 and U200. 

*  Specific training available for U100:  Alternative School and Early Childhood and High School (U100HS) 

 

Requirement:  Core                                                   

 

Prerequisite:  EX100, EX200, U50, C100 

 

Content:  Participants will learn the systems, data and practices imbedded in PBIS implementation.  The team will draft School-wide Behavioral Expectations, create a Behavioral Matrix, and plan for team development. 

 

Who should participate:  Building level Universal team that includes the following:  Building administrator, external and internal coaches, regular education teachers that represent grade levels, special education teacher, social worker and/or psychologist, specials teacher, paraprofessional, and family members. 

 

Participants should bring: 

 

Objectives: 

1.       Understand the essential components of school-wide positive support systems that

          provide behavior supports to all students 

2.       Review discipline data (Big Five graphs) and begin the process of data-

          based decision-making to meet student needs 

3.       Review the impact of student behavior on academic outcomes 

4.       Discuss and plan school-wide practices and procedures that encourage students to

          engage in positive behavior and discourage problem behavior 

5.       Identify three to five school-wide behavioral expectations/rules 

6.       Begin to develop definitions of school-wide behavioral expectations by location (matrix)  

7.       Begin process of turning new behavioral expectations/rules into teachable lesson plans

Prerequisite: EX100, EX200, U50, C100, U100, U100HS 

 

Content: Participants will build on their work from U100s and will continue by developing an acknowledgement plan, developing a chart of office-managed versus classroom-managed behaviors, establishing procedures for a continuum of interventions, evaluating the efficiency of “working smarter” among school teams, and creating a system for effective meetings. 

 

Who should participate:  Same team members who attended U100 course

 

Participants should bring:  

 

Objectives: 

1.       Finalize behavioral lesson plan(s) for teaching school-wide behavioral expectations 

2.       Teach a “Cool Tool/ Behavioral Lesson Plan” to peers 

3.       Delineate school-wide procedures to acknowledge expected behaviors 

4.       Identify classroom-managed versus office-managed problem behaviors (T-chart of

          behavior) 

5.       Identify their current data-based decision-making process and make necessary

          improvements in forms, flow charts, and processes of addressing challenging behavior 

6.       Complete the “working smarter” activity 

7.       Establish effective team process (system, data and practices) 

8.       Action plan:  Rate team checklist and develop next steps
