Plenary Session 1: Sustaining School-wide Systems to Support Positive School Climate

Session 01: Administrators' Role in Developing Tier 2/Tier 3 Behavior Systems

For Tier 2 and Tier 3 implementation to be successful, the building administrator has to be a part of the process. Learn about the data needed, the systems that have to be built, and the interventions that are evidence based. 

Session 02: Evidence-Based Practices of Effective Classroom Management: Using Planned Ignoring in the Classroom

A continuum of strategies to respond to challenging behavior should be a part of every classroom management plan. Planned Ignoring is an effective technique that helps to reduce both common misbehaviors and the use of teacher reprimands. In this session, participants will be provided with strategies for applying this practice effectively in their school setting.

Session 03: Restorative Practices within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports

This session will explore the interface between a multi-tiered system of supports and using restorative practices in tiered interventions. Learn how circles and peer juries are being utilized as interventions in the continuum.

Session 04: Action Planning for Sustainability

This session will offer school teams an opportunity to be guided through an action planning process.  Keeping what works and is evidence based going in schools is critical during this time of dwindling resources and funding.

Session 05: Universal Behavioral Screening

Universal screening is a recommended best practice to prevent school failure for students at risk for social-emotional-behavioral problems. This session will provide the tools to help prepare for screening: 1. universal screening for behavior rationale, 2. district/staff engagement strategies, 3. readiness checklist, and 4. a review of several screeners.

Session 06: Students as Leaders in Developing a Positive School Climate

Learn how to involve your diverse student voice(s) in the positive behavior support implementation process - a “do with” vs. “do to” approach. Aligning with the Danielson model of teaching, examples of integrating youth into PBIS data, systems, and practices at Tier 1 will be explored.

Session 07: Components of School-wide Acknowledgement Systems

Explore the rationale and processes for acknowledging successful behavior for ALL students. Discussion will include how to use high frequency, intermittent, and quarterly celebration acknowledgments to teach, re-teach, and sustain school-wide expectations.

Session 08: Tier 2 Intervention Fidelity

After starting implementation of Tier 2 practices, schools often need to make mid-course corrections. This session explores common roadblocks schools face with Tier 2 implementation and recommendations for overcoming them. School examples of early, mid-course, and successful implementation will be shared.

Session 09: Coaching FBA/BIP

Many facilitators trained in FBA/BIP still struggle to find success with the process. This session will outline the supports needed to help make FBA/BIPs effective. Examples of real plans will be shared.

Session 10: Administrators Lead Changing Role of Clinicians

Because of Response to Intervention (RtI), clinicians roles are changing. Administrators need to play an active role in making sure that evidence-based interventions are being used with data based decision making as an integral part of the process. This session will help participants understand ways to support your clinicians in this process.

Session 11: Evidence-based Practices of Effective Classroom Management - Using Behavioral Contracting in the Classroom

A continuum of strategies to acknowledge appropriate behavior should be a part of every classroom management plan. Behavioral contracts can be effective when supporting individual students with challenging behavior, especially older students. In this session, participants will be provided with best practices for developing and utilizing behavioral contracts.  

Session 12: District Based Coach Roles and Responsibilities

A District-based coach coordinates and leads district teams through the process of establishing and maintaining the implementation of school-wide positive behavior support systems. This session will review the roles and responsibilities of district-based coaching that support effective implementation.

Session 13: Tier 2/Tier 3 in High Schools

Participants will learn what data, systems, and practices need to be in place to implement Tier 2 for High Schools. Learn from a high school about their journey. 

Session 14: Positive Family Support: How to Make Better Connections for Middle School

Positive Family Support is a multi-tiered approach to supporting and engaging families, parents, and guardians. It is a value added component with school-based activities including families in a multi-tiered system of supports.

Session 15: Creating Equity through Problem Solving and Action Planning

Many schools deal with the issue of youth of poverty and race being over represented in ODR’s, ISS, and OSS. Hear how districts are making a difference by educating staff, supporting them as they explore ways to create more balanced disciplinary responses, and how they are assessing the impact of these efforts.

Session 16: Developing and Teaching School-wide Behavioral Expectations

Explore an elementary school's example of teaching school-wide expectations: defining, teaching, modeling, acknowledging, and re-teaching. Participants will be shown examples of behavioral lesson plans, kick-off and booster schedules, and various mediums/differentiated instruction samples.

Session 17: Applying FBA/BIP Through a Problem Solving Process

This session will focus on the difference between practical (Tier 2) and comprehensive (Tier 3) Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Planning (BIP), the critical features of effective FBAs and BIPs, and the tools to assist in their effective implementation. 

Session 18: The Wraparound Process as a Tier 3/Tertiary Intervention

This session will describe the process of Wraparound including building a child and family team, identifying strengths and needs of the child and family, developing an action plan, and using data to guide the wrap team. Participants will become familiar with four phases of Wraparound and become familiar with tools that help guide the process. 

Session 19: Building-level Coach Leadership: Facilitating Effective Team Meetings and Action Planning

Building-level coaches facilitate a Tier 1/Universal Team's planning, implementation, and action planning processes for successful implementation of a school-wide system of behavior support. Effective team meeting facilitation and action planning strategies will be shared in this session.

Session 20: Students' Voice in Developing Positive School Climate in High Schools

Implementation at the high school level requires thinking outside of the box. Consider training students to be a part of the Universal team. Learn how one school is having students lead the process as it relates to reviewing data, making changes in the systems, and being creative with implementation.

Session 21: The Role of Family/Community Members on Building Level Teams

This session will illustrate the importance of school, family, and community partnerships.  The critical role family/community members play on teams will be discussed, and Q & A will be addressed.

Session 22: Academic Seminar as a Tier 2 Intervention in High Schools

Participants will learn about a class-based Tier 2 middle and high school intervention that offers credit with a focus on academic self-management. Students learn specific organizational and homework completion skills. 

Session 23: Coaching Advanced Tiers

This session will provide a district perspective on building capacity to move from secondary through tertiary systems. Policy change, system development, data-based decision-making, developing interventions at all three tiers, tools, and the benefits and outcomes will be explored.

Session 25: Using the TIPS Process for Data Analysis, Action Planning, and Progress-Monitoring

Learn how to use building-level data and a research-based decision making process to progress monitor implementation and identify areas of need. Data sources include ODRs, ISS, OSS, expulsion, academics, attendance, IEP, educational environment, ethnicity, and assessment tools.

Session 26: Modification of Multi-Tiered Systems of Behavior Supports with Special Populations Including Students with Autism

This session will provide participants the opportunity to learn how easy modifications in school-wide positive behavior support can increase its effectiveness for students with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders).

Session 27: Social/Academic Instruction Groups as a Tier 2 Intervention

This session will describe Tier 2 and Tier 3 data, systems, and practices. Material will support teams in creating, progress-monitoring, and improving Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions. Emphasis will be on creating an efficient system, which supports the use of effective practices.
