York Center Elementary School in SD 45 DuPage County initiated PBIS in 2007. Based on a 2010 data review process, the school team decided to improve their Tier 1 and Tier 2 systems. They revised their Tier 1 behavior matrix, increased the visibility of the behavioral expectations in all locations, and allocated more time to teaching behavioral lessons to students. The Tier 2 team identified an additional person to facilitate the Check-in Check-out (CICO) process, and retrained staff on how to consistently provide positive feedback to students. These refinements contributed to a 29% decrease in office discipline referrals (ODRs) for Aug. through Nov. of 2010 compared to 2011, as well as a 20% increase in  students meeting their CICO daily goals. The district has seven schools implementing CICO with the goal of achieving similar results district-wide.
