Summit Hill District 161 began the process of exploring PBIS implementation with their school board two years ago. At that time, the district invited Summit Hill school board members to the Illinois PBIS Network Summer Leadership Conference to learn about PBIS systems and practices. Board members who participated in the conference reported positive experiences and an increased motivation to communicate the importance of implementing PBIS in Summit Hill to other school board members. As a result, two board members are now on the Summit Hill district leadership team (DLT), reinforcing the school board’s commitment to supporting district-wide PBIS efforts. Additionally, PBIS is now a standing agenda item, a PBIS district report is part of the monthly school board packet, and PBIS has been added as a line item to the district budget.
