A renewed focus on consistent Tier 1 and Tier 2 implementation at C. F. Simmons Middle School in Aurora East USD 131 is showing promising results for all students, especially those with disabilities.  A comparison of out of school suspension (OSS) data from Aug.-Mar. of 2010-11 and Aug.-Mar. of 2011-12 revealed a 39% decrease in OSS events for general education students, and a 59% decrease for students with individualized education programs (IEPs).  Moreover, there was a 37% decrease in the number of OSS days for general education students and a 58% decrease for students with IEPs.  The principal at Simmons attributes their success to maintaining fidelity at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels, holding regular team meetings, and increasing staff commitment.
