PoI Updates and the NEW National PBIS Implementation Inventory

Hello district leaders and coaches,


This year, we are excited to transition from the Illinois Phases of Implementation (PoI), to the new PBIS National Center Implementation Inventory.  This fidelity tool is intended to measure all three tiers, and was created by the PBIS National Center partners using the Illinois PoI as well as other fidelity measures, including the SET, BoQ, BAT, and ISSET to ensure multi-tiered PBIS systems are in place within a school building.  The Implementation Inventory will be available in PBIS Assessments and used nationwide to provide a full picture with one assessment tool across all three tiers of PBIS implementation.


Fall 2013

  • This Fall, schools can transition from using the Illinois PoI to the National Implementation Inventory in these ways:

    • Continue to use the Illinois PoI for school-based action planning 
    • Prepare to use the Implementation Inventory
      • The Network will host webinars in December 2013 to teach district leaders/coaches about the new tool
      • After the webinar, participants will be provided with a link to access the new Implementation Inventory (details about the webinars are listed at the bottom on this email)
    •  Begin using the Implementation Inventory
      • Available online this Fall
      • Use for school's next action planning and in preparation for Illinois PBIS Recognition Process

Spring 2014

  • The Inventory will be available for all schools via the PBIS Assessments website. 
  • A pre-recorded webinar guiding completion of the Inventory will be posted on the Illinois PBIS website support using the Inventory posted on our website. 
  • Completion of the Inventory online will generate reports on PBIS Assessments indicating fidelity across multiple tiers of support.
  • Completion of the Inventory will be required for the Illinois PBIS Recognition Process (see below) and will be useful for teams as they action plan.  

FY14 PBIS Recognition Process

  • The Recognition Process this spring will be based on the results of the Inventory. 
  • There will be four levels of recognition.
  • All schools using the Inventory for self-assessment will automatically be recognized at initial stages of fidelity.   
  • Schools reaching enhanced fidelity will be invited to apply for two additional levels of recognition, which will require documentation in addition to the completed Inventory.
  • More information on the Recognition Process will be sent to coaches in December.
    • Please note:  The Illinois PoI was used to develop the Inventory. Many of the items are the same or similar.
    • For each item, there is a scoring rubric and examples.

1.11 Data-Based Decision Making: Tier I planning team reviews and uses discipline data and academic outcome data at least monthly for decision-making.

0 = No process/protocol exists

1 = Data reviewed and used for decision-making, but less than monthly

2 = Team reviews discipline data at least monthly, and uses the data for decision-making. If fewer than 80% of students are being successful (e.g., < 2 major ODRs) an action plan is developed to enhance or modify Tier I supports

2.6 Practices Matched to Student Need: A formal process is in place for selecting Tier II interventions that have documented evidence of effectiveness, are matched to student need, and are culturally contextualized.
